WEEKLY UPDATE

A reminder to please BRING BOTH WHITE AND BLACK SHIRTS

Week #6 at St-Laurent brought another exciting night of ball hockey, featuring fast-paced action, great teamwork, and plenty of scoring opportunities. Players competed hard from start to finish, creating exciting plays while also showing strong effort on the defensive side of the ball. Goaltenders were tested throughout the evening and came up with several important saves to keep games competitive. As the season continues, it has been great to see players developing their skills, supporting their teammates, and contributing to a positive and energetic atmosphere each week. Keep up the great work and continue enjoying the game!


TOP 5 game day reminders to make you an MVP:

1) ARRIVE EARLY, at least 10 minutes early: This will allow you time to check in, get ready and warm-up.

3) NAME ON HELMET please before hitting the slab: Forgot? Tape, markers and scissors are by the rink door entrance.

6pm - White C vs Black C

scoring got underway when Émile Lemieux opened the scoring, followed by a goal from Curtis Picard that was set up by Collin Bailey and Davi Estevam. Victor Lacroix added another goal before halftime to give Team Black a comfortable 3-0 lead heading into the break. After halftime, Zachary Lacroix extended the lead to four, and Curtis Picard scored his second goal of the game on a play assisted by Luke Armstrong and Zachary Lacroix to cap off the 5-0 win. Curtis Picard was named the 1st Star after scoring twice and leading the offensive attack, while Zachary Lacroix earned 2nd Star honours with a goal and an assist. Victor Lacroix was selected as the 3rd Star for his key goal before halftime. Winston Bisson-Haughian was named Player of the Game for making a terrific pass after looking up and finding an open teammate, which demonstrated great teamwork.

7pm - White B vs Black B 

In one of the most exciting games of the day, Team White and Team Black battled to a thrilling tie through regulation before Team White came out on top in the shootout by a single goal. Maeve Hamel opened the scoring for Team White with great control from the top of the circle before beating the goalie five-hole. Team Black answered when Jakob Labonte scored with help from Brody Stacey, and Angelle Marier gave Black the lead after a quick rush into the offensive zone, gaining possession and scoring low on the glove side. Before halftime, Maeve Hamel struck again, this time with an assist from Deakon Castonguay, sending the teams into the break tied 2-2. In the second half, Zane Mazzuca scored on a penalty shot with a low blocker-side finish to put Black ahead, but Connor Brennan responded for White on a beautiful play set up by Benjamin Caron, finishing a pass across the crease with a backhand shot top shelf. Levi Blais then gave White the lead on a breakaway, sniping a shot under the blocker, before Heath Halsall answered for Black with an end-to-end rush and breakaway goal that beat the goalie's glove side to tie the game 4-4. After an intense regulation battle, Team White secured the victory in the shootout by one goal only. Maeve Hamel was named the 1st Star for scoring twice and leading the offense, Heath Halsall earned 2nd Star honors for his game-tying goal and strong effort, and Benjamin Caron was selected as the 3rd Star for his key assist. Deakon Castonguay was named the Featured Player of the Game for his excellent ball movement and ability to find open teammates in scoring positions, helping create offensive opportunities throughout the game.

8pm - White A vs Black A

Team White's scoring started when Jacob Hamel capitalized on a rebound during a net-front scramble and buried the ball in the bottom corner off a setup from Louis John. Édouard Lemieux then scored twice in the first half, first finishing a beautiful 2-on-1 passing play from Louis John with a one-timer across the crease, and later adding another goal with assists from Louis John and David Spottswood. Team White carried a commanding 3-0 lead into halftime. Team Black got on the board early in the second half when Alexy Giroux finished a 3-on-1 rush with help from Jacob Saginur and Noah Jones, firing a one-timer into the bottom glove-side corner. Maaz Mansoori responded for White, and Édouard Lemieux completed his hat trick with an assist from Jacob Hamel. Maxime Arcand scored Team Black’s second goal on a patient 2-on-1 rush set up by Jacob Saginur, picking the short side top shelf glove hand. Team White then took complete control as Howard Vereyken scored after recovering a loose ball in the offensive zone and beating the goalie low glove side from the circle, while Maaz Mansoori added his second goal of the game with an assist from Howard Vereyken. Howard later scored again by tipping a bouncing ball top shelf off a feed from Samuel Nordraven. Gabriel Krajic added another goal with assists from Édouard Lemieux and David Spottswood before Spottswood capped off the scoring by converting a penalty shot. Édouard Lemieux was named the 1st Star, Howard Vereyken earned 2nd Star honours and David Spottswood was selected as the 3rd Star. Louis John was named Player of the Game for his outstanding playmaking, recording a hat trick of assists and helping drive Team White’s offense throughout the game. Zach Surette was also recognized as Goalie of the Night for his outstanding performance across two games, consistently making key saves and demonstrating exceptional focus, endurance, and reliability between the pipes.

While stats aren’t everything, part of introducing the kids to HTBHL is giving them a taste of what our adult leagues experience. The 3 stars listed in the schedule section of the website will primarily be selected based on game statistics, just as they are in our adult leagues. That said, we’ll also highlight players from each game who may not have scored a goal, but stood out through their teamwork, sportsmanship, and effort.
